Trek in Peru

Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
Trekking route and camping on a 39 km / 24 miles journey. The longest road starts at Qoriwayrachina, at km 82 of the railroad to Machu Picchu. It goes through different ecosystems, colossal archaeological sites in landscapes rich in flora and fauna, until it reaches de citadel of Machu Picchu. A circuit to Salkantay (6271 masl / 20574 fasl) starts from this route. Contact a specialized travel agency. Degree of difficulty: intermediate. Minimum time: 4 days.
Trekking in Colca Canyon
The
Colca Valley offers unending mule roads connecting villages with fertile mountains terraced for farming. The volcano route is a favorite among trekking fans: Hualca Hualca (6025 masl / 19767 fasl), Sabancaya (5976 masl / 19606 fasl) and Ampato (6288 masl / 20630 fasl). Another suggested route links the villages of Cabanaconde and Tapay, in a circuit that takes from two to three days. Degree of difficulty: intermediate. Minimum time: 3 days. Another canyon in Arequipa is Cotahuasi Canyon.
